The Broken Yoke

The vote for independence in 1991 was a ticket to freedom not only for the peoples of the former USSR, but also for Ukrainian boxing. Newly liberated from the yoke of Soviet propaganda and the notion that the peoples of the Union could not achieve anything significant without Moscow, Ukrainian fighters proved they could do even better in independence. Ukrainian boxers quickly identified their individual strengths and began to develop them in a way that had not been permitted in the Soviet system.
