Make: Pastéis de Nata
Those of you who have been following Weekend Passport for the past couple of years may remember that I spent some time in Lisbon, Portugal early last year. Well, I seem to have found myself back in Portugal, but this time in the beautiful city of Portimão. One of the many exciting parts of returning to Portugal has been the opportunity to indulge in the Portuguese pastry, pastéis de nata, originally called pastéis de Belém. These pastries originated in Lisbon, at a pastry shop near the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos called Antiga Confeitaria de Belém. To get a taste of Portugal this weekend, try making these special (and yes, a bit complicated) treats with this recipe from James Beard Award-winning food writer, David Leite from Leite's Culinaria.
Listen: L’Impératrice
Earlier this month, I was driving with my friend who was in town visiting. She took control of the music and began to play the album, Pulsar by the French group L’Impératrice—and I loved it! L’Impératrice, which translates to “The Empress,” is a six-member group from Paris known for their unique blend of disco, funk and pop music and is a staple in the French indie music scene. You can tap in here with their new album, Pulsar—listen here on Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube.
